Ruzy’s restaurant/bar coming to town: Resort family to expand dining in Bemidji
BEMIDJI -- After four years of running the restaurant at their parents’ resort in Cass Lake, Nick, Ben and Bryan Ruzek are bringing their skills to Bemidji.
The family, which owns and operates the Sunset Cove Resort, are now planning to open a new bar and grill located at 801 Washington Ave. S. in Bemidji. The title of the new restaurant will be Ruzy’s, inspired by the family name.
“We had a few ideas but settled on Ruzy’s,” Bryan Ruzek said. “It was our nickname in Cass Lake and it was something we could all agree on.”
The site of the new business was formerly the Marvelous Fish House and Market, a restaurant that was open from May-November 2013. Before that, it was the site of the Mexican restaurant El Mariachi. Bryan Ruzek said the family purchased the building about a year ago.
“We started the restaurant at the resort four years ago and we tested the waters out there. We had been looking at Bemidji for a while, and after the first year or so when we got the one going at the resort, we knew we could do it, so we started looking,” Bryan Ruzek said. “Eventually, it finally came time that we thought we should buy the building.”
Once finished, the restaurant will have a horseshoe shaped bar in the center and a game section for pool and darts. Bryan Ruzek said the family is going for a fun atmosphere and want to create a northwoods sports bar.
“Our menu will have burgers, steaks, shrimp, sandwiches and appetizers. It won’t be too fancy, but it will be an upper class bar,” Bryan Ruzek said.
“They’ve been running the restaurant for a few years now, so they’re all experienced,” said Al Ruzek, the owner of Sunset Cove. “They’re bringing the resort food over here, so we’re going to have a proven product.”
Bryan Ruzek said the restaurant will open in roughly a month, but an exact date hasn’t been set.
