VOLLEYBALL: Jacks fall 3-1 to Grand Rapids
BEMIDJI -- The Bemidji High School volleyball team avoided a sweep but were unable to come from behind Thursday night, falling 3-1 (25-21, 25-15, 14-25, 25-18) to Grand Rapids at the BHS Gymnasium.
The Lumberjacks (10-11) recovered from a two-set deficit to win the third set, 25-14. However, the Thunderhawks (20-5) put a halt to any thoughts of a Bemidji comeback by taking the fourth set, 25-18, to clinch the victory.
Grand Rapids owns the best record in Section 7-3A and is ranked No. 12 in the Class 3-A rankings, which made for a challenging matchup for the Jacks.
“They’re a good team, but (we) just couldn’t finish it,” BHS head coach Teresa Colligan said.
Lexi Wade led Bemidji with 12 kills while Anna Falldorf and MaKenna Quinn tallied seven each. Addie Colligan recorded 33 assists, three blocks and two aces to pace the Jacks in those categories.
Quinn posted 14 digs to lead the team with Jenna Lewis following with 10 and Wade with eight.
“I thought our passing overall, and our receiving was better tonight,” Colligan said. “I thought we kept a more upbeat game and passing-wise we did far better tonight…. It’s just defensively some tweaking we need to adjust to.”
The Lumberjacks will host Brainerd in their regular season home finale Monday, Oct. 16., at 7:15 p.m. at the BHS Gymnasium.
