LETTER TO THE EDITOR: City seeking members for Sanford Center board, subcommittees
The City of Bemidji is establishing a new Sanford Center Board of Directors and three Sanford Center subcommittees. The purpose of this new structure is to better connect the broader Bemidji community to the Sanford Center, and create active community participation with the center. This is an important economic facility owned by the city but it needs more than just city support to be successful.
The Sanford Center Board of Directors makeup will be as follows:
- Bemidji Mayor
- Executive Director, Visit Bemidji
- Athletic Director, Bemidji State University
- City Manager
- Naming rights sponsor (Sanford Health)
- Community At-Large individual with an emphasis on Finance
- Community At-Large individual with an emphasis on Economic Development
The Sanford Center Board of Directors will be assisted by three subcommittees: Marketing, Facility and Finance. Each of the Board of Directors would participate with the subcommittees; however, the bulk of the subcommittees would be comprised of members of the public, which can include people that reside both in and outside of the city limits. This is a regional asset and it is in everyone’s interest to provide feedback, input, ideas and support for the Sanford Center.
At this time, the number of people on the three subcommittees and frequency of the meetings have yet to be determined.
If you are interested in serving as a board of directors at-large member, or a member of a Sanford Center subcommittee, please contact the City Clerk Kay Murphy or visit our website and fill out an application. The application deadline is Jan. 10.
